Our Mission Statement

The History Society is dedicated to the preservation and presentation of records and artifacts through carefully designed exhibits that chronicle the history of Sun City Center since its founding in 1961.

In order to promote public awareness and appreciation of this community, the Society collects, preserves and displays documentary material and artifacts, and through presentations and publications informs present and future generations of the pioneering heritage and unique character of Sun City Center.

                              Current Publications and Displays

The Society will provide your club or organization an entertaining show with narration describing the key developments, year by year, that have led to this ultra-successful Senior Citizen community.  The 15 minute, or illustrated 30 or 45 minute presentation can be tailored to your group's needs and is available, free,  with a 2-week advanced notice anywhere in Sun City Center.

The two books on the right introduce the remarkable story of how Sun City Center came to be, was developed, and why the people who live here stay and recommend it to their friends.
The book at the top has a wrap-around aerial photo of our community taken by the author in 2001.  The booklet only contains 25 pages of conversational text with a photo on just about every page.  it was produced in 2002 during the 40th anniversary celebration of Sun City Center.
The lower book at right was published in 2011 and is a bit more serious in capturing and documenting some of the community highlights over its first 50 years of development.  Again, the emphasis was on ease of reading with more photos to help explain events detailed in the text.
Either book is available for your review at the History Center office.
There is room for another book by a new author.  There is plenty of material in the History Center that have not been analyzed, sorted, and indexed.  The volunteer work of our past community leaders deserves the attention of those who are here now.
